One of the biggest myths about what causes pimples is that diet can make you break out. Eating greasy foods, chocolate or any other foodstuff can cause acne. This is not true, because while there have been numerous studies aimed at finding a connection between acne and diet, none have been found.

Getting a tan is also one of the biggest myths about acne. This only helps hide the redness caused by pimples, but it does nothing whatsoever to help cure it or prevent it from ever happening.

Another common myth about what causes pimples is that the more frequent you wash your face, the more likely your acne will clear up. While good personal hygiene can help prevent acne from occurring because it removes the germs on your skin which clog up the pores, it is not a guarantee that it can cure acne. In fact, harsh and frequent washing of the face can leave the skin irritated and dry, which in turn leads to more acne.
Popping pimples also won’t make them disappear. What this does is give you a more noticeable scar. Popping zits will push germs and bacteria deeper into the skin and clog the pores more, causing more pimples to occur on the affected area.
